May 15th is National Senior Fraud Awareness Day

Fraud targeting older adults continues to grow in both scale and sophistication.

Residents in senior living communities are especially vulnerable due to factors such as isolation, cognitive changes, and greater reliance on others for technology and financial matters.Last year, older americans reported over $7 billion in losses from internet scams and fraud.

Beyond financial loss, these scams often cause significant emotional harm — including shame, anxiety, eroded trust, and disruption to care planning, family relationships, and overall resident wellbeing.Senior living leaders play a vital role in prevention by promoting staff awareness, resident education, and stronger partnerships with families.
